Introducing the Artist

Charlotte Myers was introduced to the computer after decades of traditional printmaking. Her lifelong background as a painter enriched her approach to printmaking, leading to the creation of monoprints, viscosity printing and mixed media (pastels, pencil, torn papers, acrylics). Both paper and canvas have been used as supports.

Her work has been energized since the mid sixties by paper making as well; Japanese Gampi paper technique, with its fragile, translucent leaves, has strongly influenced her vision. Mixed media explorations involving drawing and photography preceded her digital work, and in the early nineties she began exercising her imagemaking in Photoshop on the Macintosh computer.

For her, the computer is yet another tool, just as is the printing press. Whether the imagery is based upon photography or elements from the artists' mind, they are worked together with composition, color, line and content being the critical decisions.

The fragmentation in our lives today is reflected in the multiple use of different techniques.  This artist has been enriched by being able to conjoin her composite imagery to the digital world view.
